Egypt: Obama committed to work with Abdel Fattah al-Sissi

Vested with power last Sunday for the presidency after his crashing victory (96, 91 % of the votes), the Egyptian president and former warlord, Abdel Fattah al-Sissi received messages of congratulations and supports on behalf of his peers of Africa and all over the world.

By the way, we noticed the obvious will of the president of the United States, Barack Obama, who wishes to collaborate hand in hand with President Sissi.

We should also note by the way that the relations between Egypt and the United States were difficult these recent years and the Obama administration is relieving the suspension of help imposed after the Egyptian army led by Mr. Al-Sissi dismissed President Mohamed Morsi in July 2013 and started a repression against protesters, by agreeing to deliver ten Apache gunships and 650 million dollars of helps.

On Tuesday, Mr Obama made a commitment to work with the latter “in order to make the common interests of both countries progress”.

During a phone conversation with Mr. Al-Sissi, Mr. Obama congratulated his Egyptian counterpart for his nomination and then reaffirmed the support maintained by the United States for “economic, political and social aspiration of the Egyptian people, and the respect for their universal rights”, indicated the White House in a statement.

“Mr. Al-Sissi praised this call and appreciated the support of the United States for the new government”, underlined the statement that specified that “both presidents asserted their commitment towards the strategic partnership between their countries and agreed to keep in touch during coming weeks and months”.
