Africa Top Success reported it that the spreading of the Ebola virus disease in certain countries of West Africa (Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone), impacts the State economies and can be source of a new series of famine if nothing is done. The Alliance for Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), in association with the Kenyan State, participates in the fight against the virus by offering to thousands of Liberian farmers, quality seeds to improve their agricultural productions.
This campaign will also be the opportunity for the organization to make sensitive the populations on the precautionary measures to follow in order to avoid the Ebola virus.
“The donation of 50 million tons of yellow corn seeds with high yield offered today will greatly contribute to assure food safety for the most disadvantaged farmers and their families during this difficult time marked by the epidemic of Ebola virus disease”, indicated Agnes Kalibata, manager of AGRA.
For Strive Masiyiwa, Chairman of the Board of AGRA, this action is justified by the capacity of the disease to disrupt the food systems as far as it affects the most productive parts of economies as it was the case of the pandemic of the HIV / AIDS a few years ago.
As a reminder, the programs of AGRA develop practical solutions to considerably increase the productivity of farms and the incomes of the poorest while protecting the environment.
