Yaya Touré: crowned African player of the year for the 4th consecutive time

The Ivorian midfielder of Manchester City Yaya Touré has become the first player to win four times in a row the trophy of the African player of the year, Thursday in Lagos, reported AFP.

Touré equaled four coronations record of the Cameroonian, Samuel Eto’o, but he is the first to be, four times in a row, appointed by the 56 national coaches or technical directors of the continent.

The 31-year-old Ivorian, the odds-on favorite for this prize, was preferred to the Gabonese at Borussia Dortmund, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and the Nigerian goalkeeper, at Lille, Vincent Enyeama.

The trophy particularly takes into account the performances of Touré during the conquest of the champion of England title by Manchester City last season.

During the ceremony of Lagos, the African Football Confederacy (CAF) also awarded the prize of the best African player based on the continent to Ndombe Mubele (AS Vita/COD).

The inhabitant of Niger, Asisat Oshoala, 20 years old, best scorer of the FIFA 2014 U20 Women’s World Cup of in 2014 and appointed the best player of the tournament, won the prize of the best African female player and also that of the best young person.

Algeria is appointed the best national team, honoring the performances of the Fennecs during Brazil 2014, from which they were eliminated by Germany (2-1) at 1/8th final.

The rising star at the FC Porto, Yacine Brahimi, is elected the most promising talent of 2014.
