The 47th summit of the heads of State and government of the ECOWAS (Economic Community of West African States) ended last Tuesday in Accra with the election of the Senegalese president Macky Sall at the head of the institution.
President Macky Sall so succeeds to his Ghanaian counterpart John Mahama Dramani. The latter was confronted during his term with major challenges as the Ebola virus disease that affected the economic activities of the region.
President Dramani also excelled himself by his diplomacy and wisdom in the resolution of political crises in his sub-region. He actively participated in the resolution of the Burkinabe crisis and personally involved in the success of the presidential election of 25th April 2015 in Togo.
The new president of the ECOWAS heads of State council will face security challenges particularly in Mali and in the North of Nigeria besieged by the Islamic sect Boko Haram.
