Well known actor in the promotion of the educational digital technology, the University Agency of the Francophony (Auf) supports the Ivorian Ministry for the higher education and the scientific research (Mesrs) in its project of the creation of the Digital University in Ivory Coast (Unci). This project aims at modernizing the system of the higher education and the research in the country by the deployment of the Information and Communication Technologies for Education (Tice) and the Open and Distance Education (Foad).

The Ivorian Minister for the Higher Education and the Scientific Research, Mr. Gnamien Konan, requested the expertise of the AUF for the starting up of the creation phase of the UNCI. The partnership agreement signed on 12th December 2014 mainly assigns to the AUF the following assistance missions:

*the establishment of an inventory of the university level on-line courses, accessible free of charge, open and paying distance degree courses;

*the selection of a part of these courses in adequacy with the Ivorian needs and teachers’ training to create targeted training programs using the selected on-line courses, or courses created by them, that will be used by the UNCI;

*the creation of a « CLOM / MOOC factory » for the production of recorded courses, followed by the teachers’ training for the conception of this type of distance training plan;

*The implementation of a partially distance training plan in IT and internet for the 1st level students.

The project of the digital university in Ivory Coast will allow facing the greater number of students entering the 1st level of the higher education by massively using the distance training within universities and colleges of the country.

« The use of the TICE is determining in the development and the future of the Ivorian higher education and research system that should face, as most of the emerging countries, an increasing number of its students. The Agency has been working for several years in the promotion of these tools in the education systems. We are thus proud that the Ivorian authorities requested our human and technical skills for this ambitious project« , indicated BERNARD CERQUIGLINI, the Vice-chancellor of the University Agency
