Banda: Malawian former president joining a group for fight against HIV

Tusekele Mwanyongo, the spokesman of Joyce Banda, announced on Thursday that the former president of Malawi was recruited by an influential group of former heads of States and eminent African personalities.

Her mission would be to contribute to the creation of a organization called « Generation without HIV« .

The information was confirmed by the said person underlining that « it is the chairman of the Group, the former president of Botswana, Festus Mogae, that made Mrs Banda enter the group« .

« The chairman of the group thinks that the presence of the Malawian former president, Banda is going to significantly enrich the group« , specified the spokesman.

According to him, the chairman also explained that with Joyce Banda in the team, Africa has a better luck to achieve a generation without HIV by using her inestimable experience.

The initiative mobilizes and encourages African leaders and the world decision-makers to renew and continuously intensify the fight against HIV / AIDS.

Born on 12th April 1950, Joyce Banda is a Malawian politician. Vice-president of the Republic of Malawi from 22nd May 2009, she became president on 7th April 2012 by succeeding to Bingu wa Mutharika, died day before.

She is the first woman to occupy the posts of vice-president then president of Republic in her country.
