On the decision from the Beninese Head of State, Yayi Boni, the American – Senegalese R&B singer and producer, Aliaune Badara Thiam alias Akon, was raised to the rank of Officer of the Order of the Merit in Benin during a gala dinner that took place on 22nd January 2015.

We can remember the stay of the RéB famous star in Benin in October 2014 within the framework of his « Akonlighting Africa » vast project that aims at electrifying more than one million households in Africa.

Within the framework of this project, the artist already visited several African countries during the recent six months. They are mainly Senegal, Burkina Faso, Mali, Guinea Conakry, Sierra Leone, Ivory Coast, Gabon, Congo, and Equatorial Guinea.

Benin is thus added to the list of the African countries he visited for the phase 4 of the ecological project thanks to which he plans to electrify 1 million rural households on the Black continent by the end of 2015, and this thanks to the solar energy.
