Investgations on the circumstances concerning the death of the former Burkinabe president Thomas Sankara are in progress since the fall of Compaoré’s regime by the street uprising. After the arrival of the widow Mariam Sankara in Burkina Faso, then heard by the national jurisdictions, the exhumation corpses of Thomas Sankara and his 12 close friends killed in conditions not clarified yet is started.
According to the authorities of Burkina Faso, this mission aims at making a general autopsy of the corpses. This will allow identifying the remains and knowing more about on the conditions of their death. Ballistic analyses are also planned in case of discovery of bullets.
In the grave supposed to belong to the revolutionary former president, bones and clothes were found. « They have just finished with the remains of Captain Thomas Sankara inside; they have just started with that of Gouem Abdoulaye. The operations rae in progress. For the captain, we of course found his remains, his clothes. Now, it is up to the experts to do a work of experts« , declared Mr. Bénéwendé Sankara to Burkina 24.
Born on 21st December 1949, Captain Sankara is murdered on 15th October 1987 in Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso). He had led the Burkinabe revolution until he died.
