DR of Congo: 52 children join their family thanks to the Red Cross

Fifty two children under 17 years old are ready to find join their relatives from whom they were separated months ago, thanks to the help of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the Red Cross volunteers of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), according to a communiqué published on Friday by the ICRC.

« These children among whom 22 boys and 30 girls, lived without their parents during several months because of the conflicts shaking certain regions of the country. Most of them got lost while they were escaping from their village« , indicated Veronika Hinz Gugliuzza, ICRC coordinator of the activities for restoring the family links of in DRC.

« First of all, we established their identity and temporarily placed them in centers or host families while waiting for being able to localize their families. All our teams are very happy to be able to return them to their families« , she added.

These young people will be taken back their home on board two planes by ICRC, that will make flights during many days and will travel thousands km through several east and western provinces of DRC.

Thanks to the efforts by Red Cross, a total of 626 children were joined their families DRC while 520 others are still on standby to go back home.
