The challenges in front of food insecurity and of climate change are enormous. And it is really necessary even compulsory to act as quickly as possible.

It is from this perspective that hundred researchers and representatives of governments, companies, farmers associations and NGO have been working since Tuesday in Addis Abeba, Ethiopia on the ways of increasing food production in Africa in order to reduce poverty and finance farming sector by 2025.

All this is taking place through the 4th Africa Green Revolution Forum (AGRF) centered on the theme: « beyond the critical threshold: a vision and new strategies for an including and sustainable change« .

The Forum is organized by the Africa Green Revolution Alliance (AGRA) in association with the African Union, the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the Southern Africa Confederation of Agricultural Unions (SACAU).

For the organizers, if the annual economic growth in Africa was among the strongest in the world during the last decade, farmers and the rural populations did not benefit from it because 200 million Africans still suffer from chronic malnutrition and 5 million starve every year.

This meeting aims thus at making concrete the political commitments taken by the African countries in July 2014 for the next decade and to end up with poverty thanks to an including agricultural growth.

In order to reach these goals, the participants will have to examine the ways and means to mobilize more funds and stimulate the agricultural research as well as the implication of the youth, private enterprises and farmers in the production line.

The participants will also have to work on the effects of climate change on food insecurity in Africa.
