ICTS and empowerment of girls: Nigeria, good example

International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and UNO Women rewarded Nigeria for its actions in favor of empowerment of girls thanks to ICTS. The organizers of the prize has thus made of Nigeria, a model in gender equality, and the access to ICTS.

ITU General Secretary, Dr. Hamadoun Touré congratulated Nigeria and the minister of technologies and communication, Omobola Johnson to have introduced policies and programs that are changing life of women and girls through ICTS.

Receiving the prize, Omobola Johnson indicated that the present distinction has rewarded an important recognition and the validation of efforts by Nigerian government towards equality and empowerment of women via information and communication technologies.

« We made a commitment to have more women and girls in ICTS sectors. We want to make sure that Nigerian women and girls are encouraged and authorized to adopt ICTS. It is important to encourage our daughters in this way so that they are not pushed aside from digital revolution that changes communities and nations all over the world » she indicated.
