In spite of the important amounts transferred via the mobile networks, the subscribers had no access to credits. It is henceforth possible in Rwanda with « Igurize Amafaranga« , the new product of the mobile telephony company, Airtel.
« Igurize Amafaranga » launched in partnership with the microfinance, Atlantis Ltd, henceforth allows the Airtel customers getting loans to the level of 50.000 Rwandan francs (72 dollars), refundable within two weeks.
For Phillip Onzoma, manager of Airtel Money quoted by the Ecoend Agency, the new product « answers the need for collaboration with telecom operators formulated by the financial institutions in order to extend their financial services to all Rwandans« .
For her part, Raissa Muyango, the Chief Executive Officer of the microfinance company, Atlantis Rwanda, has praied the advantages of « Igurize Amafaranga« . The product is « ideal for the subscribers who do not have enough means to open a bank account but urgently need money to solve a problem« , she explained.
