The Ivorian Minister for Higher Education announced on Monday that English and computing have become compulsory for every student reading for his Bachelor’s degree. This probationary training covers one academic year extending thus the minimal duration for the Bachelor’s degree obtaining to four years.
« A probationary year is a year to get ready in order to be capable of following a single training course (…) This will start this reopening. It is valid for all the sectors. What we already know is that there are both semesters; one for computing and the other for English learning. Henceforth, after the Bachelor’s degree, the training in Master’s degree will exclusively be done in English« , explained the minister, Gnamien Konan.
The new disposition taken by the Ivorian government will improve the quality of higher education and will participate in the reduction of unemployment rate according to Gnamien Kona. « Higher education has to stop training unemployed persons. Today, English has become something major. It’s the same for computing. All higher education sectors have to adopt the LMD system« , specified the Minister.
