People of Madagascar are having good time again at the occasion of the 21st edition of the « Donia » festival of music that began on Wednesday on the tourist island of Nosy Be, in the north-west of the Big Island.

Translated into English as good life, « Donia » is a meeting centered on cultural exchanges between all the islands of Indian Ocean. A festival which, according to the chairman of the General Council of Mayotte, Daniel Zaïdani, attracts on average 50.000 spectators over five days during which Nosy Be becomes the headquarters of the music of Indian Ocean.

During the launching ceremony of the festival, the minister of small business, culture and heritage of Madagascar, Vaonalaroy Randrianarisoa, specified that « creating key cultural events is a part of priority axes of the National Cultural policy of Madagascar and the Donia festival is a concrete illustration ».

« Through the Donia Festival and at the end of two decades, we can undoubtedly assert that Nosy Be is already and will be a regional cultural headlight, a moving plate of Indian Ocen region where lies the respect for life enjoyment and the pursuit of the will to live together by tolerance and harmony in diversity », she added.

On his turn, the minister of Tourism, Ramanantsoa Ramarcel Benjamina, asserted that « Donia » is a concrete proof that Vanillas Islands of Indian Ocean can realize nice things when they decide to get together and to exchange between themselves in particular culturally as for the case of Donia.

« This model of success deserves to be multiplied through our islands to emphasize our common and diverse cultural treasures before the eyes of the rest of the world », underlined the minister.
