« Further to an official invitation by the Pope François, the president of the Republic, Hery Rajaonarimampianina, will be received by the Supreme Pontiff on Saturday, 28th June 2014 in Vatican », indicated a communiqué of the presidency published on Thursday.

The Malagasy president, Hery Rajaonarimampianina, will thus go to Vatican to have a meeting with the Pope François.

Since his election last December, the president Hery Rajaonarimampianina made several official visits abroad to prove the return to the constitutional order on the Big Island after about five years of political crisis and not recognition of the international community.

At the same time, the country is celebrating the 54th anniversary of its independence. A celebration placed under the theme: « The Madagascans, hand in hand for development« .

The festivities have already begun one week in advance with the organization of various concerts and shows in some places of Antananarivo, the Malagasy capital town and in the other regions of the country as well as fireworks on the eve in the administrative center of each province.

An official banquet was then organized at the State Palace of Iavoloha in the south suburb of the capital where the presidential couple invited about 2.000 persons coming from the various regions of the Big Island.
