The Namibian president, Hifikepunye Pohamba can expect a wonderful retirement. The man has just won the Mo Ibrahim Foundation Prize that rewards the good governance by the African former presidents. The prize-winner will take 5 million dollar envelope which payment will be spaced out over the next ten years.

Hifikepunye Pohamba, at the head of Namibia since 21st March 2005, will leave his armchair within a few days to his successor, Hage Geingob, winner of the presidential election of December 2014.

The fight against corruption, criminality, AIDS spreading, and the redistribution of farmlands was in the heart of the fight of the second president of Namibia.

On 16th November 2004, he was elected president with 76,4 % of the votes and the transfer of power with Sam Nujoma was done on 21st March 2005. During the general election jointly taking place, the SWAPO (his party) obtained 55 seats over 72. He was reelected with more than 75 % of the votes during the elections of November 2009.

Since he has been a president, Pohamba amazed many observers by his moderation and modesty, contrary to Sam Nujoma who was known for his repeated mood swings against homosexuals, the Whites, and his political enemies, among others.
