The Election board of Namibia (ECN) published on Monday the results of the presidential election. And unsurprisingly, the Namibian Prime Minister, Hage Geingob, supported by the party in power Swapo, won with 772.528 votes, that is about 87 % of the valid votes.

Mr Geingob is followed by McHenry Venaani, candidate of the DTA party that obtained 44.271 votes, whereas the RDP candidate, Hidipo Hamutenya, registered only 30.197 votes.

At the end of the results, Mr Geingob declared that the responsibility assigned to him is enormous but he promised to be the leader of all Namibians.

With 715.026 votes, the Swapo party obtained 77 over 96 seats at the Parliament, far in front of the DTA which obtained five seats only with 42.933 votes, and in front of the RDP that obtained three with 31. 372 votes.

THE APP (20.431 votes) also obtained two seats and the UDF (18. 945 votes) two seats also.

Eight other candidates competing in the presidential election including the leader of the opposition party, DTA, McHenry Venaani, recognized his defeat.

Sixteen political parties were competing in the general election, held together with the presidential election.

It is for the first time in Africa where the vote took place by electronic system with electronic voting machines (EVM).

The outgoing president, Hifikepunye Pohamba, who ended two five-year terms, is going to hand over the power to Mr Geingob in March 2015.
