In spite of the structural difficulties met by the Least Developed Countries (LDCs), a dozen of them are on the right track, asserted on 31st July 2014, the Beninese Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nassirou Bako-Arifari (picture).

It was during the closing ceremony of the Ministerial Conference of Cotonou on the new partnerships for LDCs productive capacities strengthening.

And Benin appears in the list.

According to the Minister Bako-Arifari, these latest years, Benin made enormous progress and on the horizon 2020, the country could emerge from the group of LDCs and move to the status of middle-income country.

« Certainly, it is a slogan of encouragement but it is put on a solid substratum« , added the latter.

Really ambitious objective when we know that only four countries succeeded in increasing within forty years.

In a spring of optimism, the Minister considered for his part that « it is feasible« .

Chaired by the Beninese Head of State, Boni Yayi in his quality of the chairman of the world Office of LDCs, by his side, the chairman of the Commission of the African Union (UA), Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma and the personal representative of the United Nations Secretary General, Gyan Chandra Acharya as well as the former prime minister of Haiti, Michèle Pierre-Louis, the meeting had for objective to identify the new and innovative partners to support the efforts of LDCs in the strengthening of their productive capacities.

New commitments were taken in favor of LDCs to help them to overcome poverty and to allow half of these countries to move forward on the horizon 2020 as agreed during the Ministerial Conference of Istanbul three years ago.
