The mobile phone operator, Orange Cameroon, announced on Thursday the investments for 1500 billion FCFA over the coming 10 years within the framework of the development and the operation of its network through the country.

Questioned on Thursday by the national daily paper, Cameroon Tribune, its Chief Executive Officer, Elisabeth Medou Badang, explained that the company would be at present in negotiations with the government, with the aim of the deployment of the Africa Coast to Europe (ace) submarine cable, 17.000 kilometers long and which exit point is situated in the seaside city of Kribi (South).

This project will be implemented as soon as the regulatory period of time comes, as well as the one related to the access of the mobile telephony 3rd generation (3G), mainly considered faster and more reliable regarding data transmission or downloads.

But these announcements could only be effective if the operator license being expired and which renewal is under progress, is extended.

As a reminder, Orange Cameroon, subsidiary of France Télécom, obtained its operating license for mobile network (GSM) in June 1999 and started operating in February 2000 for duration of 15 years.

With its competitor, the South African Mobile Telecommunications Networks (MTN), this operator has fought for years for the liberalization of the optical fiber which is exclusively controlled by the Cameroon Telecommunications (CAMTEL, public company).
