RFI proceeded on 15th September 2014 to the launching of Ghislaine Dupont and Claude Verlon grant, carrying the name of both journalists of the aforesaid radio station cowardly killed on 2nd November 2013 in Kidal (North Mali) in the line of their duty. Commemorating the first anniversary of the tragic disappearance of both journalists, the prize-winners of the grant were appointed last 2nd November in Bamako. They are Rachelle Tessougué, journalist, and Sidi Mohamed Dicko radio technician.

For the manager of the radio station, the choice of this day to appoint the prize-winners is very meaningful. « It will so be the opportunity to defend beside our Malian colleagues, the value that is essential for us, that of the right for free information that terrorism trampled. A right that can be practiced only if attacks of which journalists are victims are not kept unpunished« , indicated Marie-Christine Saragosse, manager of the « world radio ».

Both prize-winners, in addition to the trainings acquired during several weeks in Bamako with the support of eminent journalists coming from France, will participate in an internship in Paris.

As reminder, Ghislaine Dupont and Claude Verlon grant will reward every year, one French-speaking radio journalist and technicians of less than 30 years. The first edition of the grant got the collaboration of ORTM (Radio and Television Broadcasting Service of Mali), the Journalism School of Political Science Faculty and the National Audiovisual Institute (INA).
