Rwanda: appointed the most competitive economy of East Africa

11869027774_42951cee74_zRwanda keeps its economic position the most competitive of East African region according to a new report by the World Competitiveness Index.

The small East African country stands at the third position of the continent after the Mauritius Island and South Africa in the annual report 2014 of the World Wconomic Forum (WEF) published on Wednesday in Geneva.

Rwanda is classified 62nd over 144 countries studied in the world, and so moved 4 positions forward with regard to last year, while the Mauritius Island is at the 39th position and South Africa at the 56th position.

The Rwandan Minister for finance and economic planning, Claver Gatete (photo), declared on Wednesday that Rwanda deserved this position because the country maintained its impressive growth rate.

« Our objective is to stand at the first position and accelerate the growth of our country. We are still at work. We aim high for better and sustainable results that will benefit to all Rwandan citizens« , he indicated.

According to the study, within the East African Community, Kenya comes second, and 90th at the world level. Tanzania, Uganda and Burundi arrive respectively at 121st, 122nd and 139th world position.

According to the report 2014 by the FEM, Switzerland arrived first followed by Singapore and the United States. Finland and Germany followed at the 4th and 5th position.
