Five million dollars is the additional financial envelope the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is going to grant in the coming days to support the fight against the Ebola epidemic that is destroying the sub-Saharan Africa.

During a meeting with the press on Wednesday in Monrovia, Liberia, the Director of the Bureau of the USAID for Emergency Aid, Jeremy Konyndyk (photo) specified that « this new envelop raised the financial assistance by the American agency to 19,6 million dollars in order to end up with the mortal virus spread in West Africa since February 2014« .

This press conference was held within the framework of a visit in Liberia, one of the countries the most affected by the epidemic, in order to discuss with the authorities about strategies to be set up to slow down the spreading of the hemorrhagic virus.

We should note that a few days before, the USAID took more than 16 tons of medical supplies and emergency material to Liberia of which 10.000 personal protective equipment, water treatment systems, water tanks capable of storing 10.000 liters each and 100 rollers of plastic covers that can be used to the build treatment units of Ebola.

According to Mr. Konyndyk, the government of his country is currently at work in close collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), the governments of affected countries and other partners on the field to identify the most important needs and deploy important resources in the affected zones.
