Yacine Brahimi: First Algerian to be appointed the BBC African footballer of the year

The Algerian striker at FC Porto, Yacine Brahimi, has just broken the dream for the fourth consecutive coronation of Yaya Touré (2011, 2012, 2013), by winning last Monday the prize of the best African footballer of the year initiated by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) public group.

He was competing with the Nigerian, Vincent Enyeama, the Gabonese, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and the Ivorians, Gervinho and Yaya Touré.

Very happy, Yacine Brahimi indicated that: « it is a great honor for me to win this wonderful trophy. I owe this to my country, Algeria, and to all the persons who voted for me. I am very very happy« .

Following this announcement, he intends lean on this prize for his progress. « This trophy is going to give me more strength, more desire to work, progress, learn in order to continue to be very successful« , continued the prize-winner.

This award is said to be deserved by the player who created strong sensation within the Algerian national team this year by scoring his very first goal with the Fennecs of Algeria at the World Cup 2014, a t the time when this selection reached for its first time 1/8th finals.

All the same, he also greatly contributed to brilliant qualification of Algeria for the next AFCON, 5 victories in six matches.

At 24 years old, Yacine Brahimi becomes the first Algerian to win this prize, he who is appointed by the African sports public.
