Considered as one of the main promoters of the Azonto dance, Michael Owusu Addo known under the name of Sarkodie is a « multi-form rapper » because of the various musical styles he possesses.

Sarkodie often does rap in his mother tongue, Twi. Many Ghanaians recognize him as being one of the main hip-hop and hiplife artists in the country.

Born on 10th July 1985, Sarkodie grew up in Tema and is the fourth of five children. He won several prizes and nominations going from « the Artist of the year » to « the Album of the year« . His second album, Rapperholic, won three Ghana Music Awards from 12 nominations.

He is an ambassador for the Samsung Mobile brand. He recently signed a sponsorship deal with FanMilk Ghana. Sarkodie is at present in partnership with Tigo Ghana telecommunications, a brand that sponsored the Rapperholic tour 2013.

The tragic disappearance of Castro, another great name of the Ghanaian music, raised the popularity rating of Sarkodie with all the irony and the paradox it involves as we know that the death of the star of Ghana music plunged millions of music lovers into unprecedented sadness.

But whatever we say, the number of views of « Adonaï » on YouTube, a hit stemming from the collaboration of both artists, exponentially increased in a short time. And in 2014, the video has taken the record of the on-line downloads on the musical scene of the country of John Mahama.

Sarko, not to mix up with the French former president, Sarkozy, has his own clothing line called « Sark by Yas« . He was ranked 8th on the list by Forbes for the Top 10 « richest artists » and by Channel O for the « bankable » African artists.

The first Ghanaian to have von the BET AWARDS, Sarkodie got the privilege to play on the same stage with international musicians such as T-Pain, Miguel, Movado, Trey Songz, and Ludacris.

At the Independent Music Awards 2014, with « Sarkology », his very last album released in 2014, he was crowned the Best Hip-hop rapper.

During the Ghana Music Awards, Sarkodie scraped everything: the Hip-hop artist of the year, the best rapper of the year, the album of the year, the Hip-hop song of the year. He won other prizes at the MTV Africa Music Awards, the African Muzik Magazine Awards, the Channel O Music Video Awards.

The artist has a large base of fans in Africa and is considered as one of the most famous musical icons of Ghana.
