21 days of y’ello care: MTN invests in Education in Africa

mtn« 21 days of y’ello care « , the project of the mobile telephony company MTN that aims at putting its staff at the service of the community activities in the countries where it is installed, is for its eighth edition this year. Placed under the theme, « Invest in education for all« , the initiative in Ghana consists of endowing colleges with of e-libraries.

Accra, Kumasi and Tarkwa (western region) are the main cities that will host the (virtual) digital libraries that will be built by MTN in Ghana. All in all 40 000 e-books will be put at the disposal of teachers and learners.

Since 2008, Ghana has made a commitment in an education policy of ICTS and this initiative will come in support to the actions of government and private institutions. Serame Taukobong, the managing director of MTN in Ghana also indicated that his company will supply services of free cloud to connect two higher education institutions of the country.

The « 21 days of y’ello care » project is carried out in 22 countries. In order to encourage its staff to more commitment, MTN put in challenge a $100 000 envelope. It will come back to the team the project of which will have more impacts on their community.

In Congo, MTN agents are going to set up 21 libraries in 21 public schools in the 12 departments of the country. « Education is a mattering theme that we chose these last three years as our intervention focal point towards communities; we concentrate on young people to offer them access to reading, knowledge by books« , indicated the managing director of MTN Congo, Freddy Tchala.
