Chris Kiburi: the Kenyan multimillionaire appointed African manager of the year

The Kenyan businessman, Chris Kiburi,was appointed the African manager of the year during the 3rd edition of Africa CEO forum. The Algerian, Issad Rebrab, the founder of the Cevital group, was also elected just like Mr. Kiburi.

Two « African CEOs of the year » thus succeed to the boss of Kalagadi Manganese, Daphné Mashile-Nkosi, and the CEO of the Ethiopian Airlines, Tewolde Gebremariam.

According to the organizers of the event, both men were rewarded for the illustration of the first man in the real estate development and the political ambition of acquisition shown by the second.

Apart from Rebrab and Kirubi, kindly note that Danone, Equity Bank, Helios and HIS were also honored by Africa CEO forum. In their order of listing, these institutions were honored with trophies of multinational in Africa, that of capital-investor, bank as well as African company of the year.

Chris Kirubi is a businessman, an entrepreneur, an industrialist and a philanthropist in Kenya, the biggest economy in East Africa. He is the current chairman of the Centum Investment Company Limited, a business conglomerate in which he is the biggest individual shareholder.

During the 1960s and at the beginning of the 1970s, Kirubi worked as director at Kenatco, a transport company belonging to the government.

From approximately 1971, he began to buy ruined buildings in the cities of Nairobi and Mombasa, renovate them and either sell or rent them.

He also began to acquire strategic plots of lands in and around Nairobi, and proceeded to set up residential and commercial properties for rent on them, by using loans from the Kenyan financial institutions.

He recently earned 30.8 million $ in the transfer of his share in UAP Group at Old Mutual.
