« Eve« , the last album by the Beninese artist, Angélique Kidjo, was rewarded during the 57th evening of Grammy Awards held on Sunday at Staples Center of Los Angeles. The album that pays tribute to the African woman won the Grammy for the « Best world music album« . This distinction is the second awarded to the Beninese artist by the American academy.
Angélique Kidjo was competing with Toumani Diabaté and his son, Sidiki, « Toumani and Sidiki » (World Circuit), Wu Man, Luis Conte and Daniel Ho « Our World In Song » (Daniel Ho Creations and Wind Music), Sérgio Mendes, Magic (OKeh) and Anoushka Shankar, « Tracks Of You » (Deutsche Grammophon).
« This album is dedicated to the African woman, her beauty and her impact strength (…) For me, music is a peace weapon and today more than ever, artists have a role to play in the stability of the world « , declared the prize-winner.
The Year 2015 starts well for Angélique Kidjo. The Beninese star, crowned the African of the year by the Pan-African newspaper, Africa Top Success, is also list among the most 50 influential women of the African continent according to the Jeune Afrique magazine.
