« It is official; I am candidate for presidential election of 2014! »
He surprised everybody by announcing that he would be candidate for the next Algerian presidential election which will take place in 2014.
His readership knew that he is fan of politics but not to the extent of being candidate!
The case is quickly and efficiently conducted because he already asserted of having necessary signatures and this without the support of any political party for the moment!
His program: still too early to reveal it. He will do it if he feels a real run-up around him … « We cannot go against the will of the people » lucid, he recognized: « I know that I blundered »
He is sure of himself: « I was raised by the junior school and formated by indestructible love of Algeria. I was also the designer of the plan for fight against terrorism in Oranie. No man can impose me anything… «
Abdelaziz Bouteflika will finish his third mandate in April 2014. At 76 year old, he will be candidate again after 14 years of power. It would be his fourth mandate.
Yasmina Khadra, of his real name Mohammed Moulessehoul, was born in 1955 in Algerian Sahara at Kenadsan in the Wilaya de Bachar. He was known by his writings in Algeria and in all Africa. He is currently managing Algerian Cultural center (CCA) in Paris.
His career was not easy and marked by the fate imposed by his father, an officer of the ALN wounded in 1958. He wished his son had followed his footsteps and he got him trained in a military high school.
Mohammed served in military academies before serving as officer in Algerian army during 36 years. In 90s, he was one of the main leaders for fight against the AIS then the GIA.
But Mohammed Moulessehoul also had the passion of letters. He published six novels under his name from 1984 to 1989 and obtained several literary prizes, among which that of the international fund for culture promotion (of the UNESCO) in 1993. He escaped from the military censorship committee by opting for underground and wrote “le premier Commissaire Llob” (editions Laphomic-Alger 1989). He will write during eleven years under various pen names and will collaborate with several Algerian and foreign newspapers to defend the Algerian writers.
In 1997, after these years « of anonymity », he publicly showed himself and took the pen name of Yasmina Khadra (which are both first names of his wife. « My wife supported me and allowed me to overcome all difficult events that marked out my life. By carrying her first names as laurels, it is my way of owing her. Without her, I would have given up. It was her who gave me courage to break prohibitions. When I spoke to her about the military censorship, she volunteered herself to sign at my place my publishing contracts and said to me this sentence which will remain biblical for me: « you gave me your name for life. I give you mine for posterity« .
Yasmina Khadra also means the strong symbol of a commitment for Muslim women emancipation. He will then say about: « Misfortune operates where woman is scoffed ».
He resigned from army in 2000 in order to dedicate himself to writing. In 2001, he revealed his male identity with the publication of his autobiographical novel “L’Écrivain et son identité” (The Writer and his identity).
The work of Yasmina Khadra was also partially adapted to cinema, to theater, in comic book, in choreography.
His novels are translated in 42 countries: Albania, Algeria (in Arabic for the Maghreb), Germany, Austria, Brazil, Bulgaria, Korea, Croatia, Denmark, The United Arab Emirates, Estonia, The United States, Finland, Great Britain, Greece, Spain (Castillan and Catalan), Hungary, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iceland, Italy, Israel, Japan, Lebanon (in Arabic for Machrek), Lithuania, Macedonia , Norway, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Czech Republic, Turkey, Vietnam.
Yasmina Khadra is also a scriptwriter for cinema. He co-signed « Enemy Way », of Rachid Bouchareb (with in the principal roles Forest Whitaker, Harvey Keitel and Ellen Burstyn).
In 2013, Yasmina Khadra made his entry to the French dictionary “Le Petit Robert” in the section of proper nouns. Another way of gratitude!
In 2014, he wants to take the power and to make his revolution.
