Johannesburg

Addis Abeba, Nairobi, Cairo, Johannesburg, Cape Town are cities of the Black continent that will soon compete with New York, Paris and London.

According to a study of Global Cities Index published on 22nd April 2014, this ranking was established according to five indicators: economic activity, human resources, information exchange, cultural offer and political influence.

In more clear terms, these identified African cities thus have potential and characteristics to compete with the big world metropolises by 10 or 20 years.

« African cities are at crossroads. Historic megalopolises that are Johannesburg, Nairobi and Lagos continue to be among the most globalized African cities », noted Dan Starta, one of the authors of the report.

He underlined all the same that « with a fall in the ranking since the first index in 2008, emerging cities could quickly pass before them ».

As regards to emerging cities, A.T. Kearney consulting firm, indicated that Jakarta is at the top of the ranking.
