It can take 5 years before the operation of the oil field recently discovered off Dakar, indicated on Wednesday in Dakar, the managing director of the Senegal National Oil Company (PETROSEN), Mamadou Faye.

« After this discovery » announced last week, « the logic » would like an evaluation of the situation to be done before the development phase, he said in press conference.

« This can take five to six years », underlined Mr. Faye, confirming the discovery of oil announced by the drilling operation called FAN-1 off Saloum islands at the level of the block called deep Sangomar.

According to PETROSEN managing director, with the depth of water characterizing this site, no oil operation is possible without production platforms.

« It is not something we find on the market as vehicles », underlined Mamadou Faye. He assured that all technical characteristics of this platform will be studied with the implementation of the necessary engineering for a better operation of the product.

« This work is going to last two to three years. That is from the engineering; the entire discovered field can take time before the operation », specified the managing director of Senegal National Oil Company.

The oil exploration operations of the FAN-1 drilling are carried out by the British company, Cairn Energy, with partners as ConocoPhillips (United States), FAR (Australia) and the Senegal National Oil Company (PETROSEN).

CAIRN holds 40 % of this block against 35 % for ConocoPhilips and 15 % for FAR. PETROSEN holds for its part 10 % of this block.
