Senegal: Potable water for all, the new challenge of the government

The Senegalese government gives a national priority to the access to potable water. The Minister of Hydraulics and Environment, Mansour Faye announced on Wednesday, 13th August, the building of 300 hydraulic works by 2018. The funds for the realization of this vast works are available according to the Senegalese Minister.

The Minister of Hydraulics and Environment, Mansour Faye was on Wednesday in the region of Tambacounda within the framework of a national tour that allowed him to make the inventory of the available infrastructures and to collect the needs of the population. He promised the building of 85 water drillings in the locality in the coming month.

These new infrastructures will supply 240.000 persons according to the Millennium Water and Purification Program (PEPAM).

For the efforts made during these last years by the PEPAM and the National Program of Local Development (PNDL), local authorities, NGO, the region has a global rate of potable water access  of 83,19 % , with 89,70 % for Bakel, 75,85 % for Goudiry, 90,78 % for Koumpentoum, and 76,62 % for Tambacounda, according to the ministry of in charge, indicated the Minister on APS.

The European Union (27,5 million euros), the African Development Bank (30 billion FCFA), the West African Economic and Monetary Union (6 billion FCFA), the Saudi Funds (5 billion FCFA) and the Japanese Cooperation (5 billion FCFA) participate in the realization of this ambitious project that will improve the living conditions of the beneficiary populations
