Nigeria: green light for 9 private universities

The Nigerian education system, the higher education mainly is rapidly expanding. The sector of universities is getting larger with the arrival in the next months of new (09) private universities.

The Federal Executive Commission of Nigeria (FEC) has just given its agreement for the establishment of these universities in the country.

These universities are as following: Hallmark University, Michael and Cecilia Ibru University, Kings University, Mountain Top University, Augustine University, Chrisland University and Summit University.

The announcement was made on Wednesday by the minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka during a press briefing Abuja.

The Nigerian minister of Education, Ibrahim Shekarau has for his part indicated that « the government had no control over the expenses required by the private universities« .

« Just like for the private hospitals or the nursery schools, the private university owners are free to ask for the expenses that can assure them profits on investment« , supported Mr. Shekarau.

He however announced the concern of the government « to make sure that these schools work according to the required standards in terms of establishments and staff« .
