Launched in July 2014, the agro-industrial park building project in Bukanga Lonzo bears fruit. The president of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Joseph Kabila proceeded on Thursday, 5th March 2015 to the harvest ceremony of the first corn crops.
A total of 5000 hectares are concerned by this first phase of harvests. Every hectare should produce four tons of corn. The harvest activities will continue to July according to Jean Chrysostome Vahamwiti, the Congolese Minister for Agriculture.
The agro-industrial park building project in Bukanga aims at assuring food self-sufficiency to D R Congo. « This project will also give a range of varied products for a balanced meal to the Congolese. These products will be accessible not only in terms of distance but also in terms of income. Prices will be reduced« , declared John Musisa, adviser in agriculture for the Prime Minister of DR Congo.
A total of 70.000 hectares will be operated in the realization of the aforementioned project that eventually will have to create more than 5000 jobs. The products cultivated are corn, soya, bean and several vegetables.
