Renewable energies: the solution for competitive Africa

Africa is not lacking raw material to become a giant of renewable Energy. According to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), Africa and renewable energies are « the way towards sustainable growth. » Conscious of the potential that the continent has, the actors working in the domain made an appointment from 24 to 27 April in Ouagadougou for the third edition of the International fair of environment and renewable energies of Ouagadougou (SIERO). Concerning the theme, « Renewable energies, agro-sylvo-pastoral production and environmental protection », this meeting will allow participants to think about the means to use for a better popularization of renewable energies.

Africa, by developing and by adopting renewable energies, would be more competitive and would win in terms of fair development, value creation on a local scale, energy safety and environmental viability. In this part of the report, IRENA is calling Africans to action.

Organized by African Network of Millennium Objectives Support for Development (RASOMD), the International fair of environment and renewable energies of Ouagadougou (SIERO) has for objective, promotion and popularization of renewable energies. The fair has integrated to its activities, sectors of water, sanitation and environment.

An international exhibition, a television debate, conferences – debates, guided tours, radio programs and an official reception baptized « SIERO Evening » are parts of the program for this third edition of the event in which France, Canada, Ghana, Senegal, Coast of ivory and Gabon will take part.

For the first time in its history, the fair will reward physical persons and institutions that have contributed by their commitment to the promotion of renewable energies in Africa.
