Kigali wants to be the Number One of the ICTS in Africa and facts are evident. The Rwandan mobile phone operator, MTN Rwanda, has just proceeded to the launching of the very first mobile cash dispenser in the world. The project came into being thanks to the collaboration between the operator and several banks of the country.

The 1, 7 million subscribers to the MTN Rwanda’s mobile financial services (mobile money MTN) can henceforth transfer money between their « mobile money » account and their bank account at Kenya Commercial Bank KCB. They can also collect money from their « mobile purse » at I&M vending machines and from other dispensers connected to RSwitch without the need of using a standard transaction with bank card.

A total of three banks, Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB), RSwitch and I&M Bank collaborate with MTN Rwanda for the experimental phase of the project.

ICTS take a good place in the activities of populations of Central and East Africa. Kenya belongs to the list of promoters of mobile payment with the product called M-Pesa. Less expensive, it is easily accessible contrary to banks that require many papers. More than 3 million Kenyans purchase by mobile payment.

The initiative fascinates several African countries among which Togo and Senegal. In Rwanda, 65 % of the population or 6 million people use a mobile phone.
