The electoral revolution in Africa is underway. After Namibia that voted on 28th November of this year on touchscreen within the framework of the election its President and members of parliament, for an experience that showed spectacular results, it is the turn of Senegal that plans to set up, before 2015, a system for smart ID and voting cards.
In a communiqué published by the Ministry of the Interior and the Security, the government declared the wish to set up these smart cards for more reliability and efficiency in the administrative domain.
« The basic idea of the project for the creation of smart ID and voting cards system is the possibility of integrating other elements into the smart card. This is the way we received proposals of integrating the driving licence, but by caution, we are going to begin at first by ID and voting cards and if everything goes well as planned, we will integrate other elements« , asserted Abdoulaye Daouda Diallo (photo), Minister of the interior and the Security, at the National Assembly, during exchanges on the budget 2015.
The Minister announced at the same time the end of the contract with the production house of the national digital ID cards.
« I even decided to end the contract linking us to the production house of ID and voting cards because in the course of 2015, we are going to start this new project of smart cards« , he declared.
Smart cards should allow storing a much more important quantity of information in its holders, and giving advancement to the Senegalese government for the use of e-solution in the future.
