Dakar will welcome from 23rd October to 2nd November 2014, the third edition of the Regional Trade Fair for the Integration of the West-African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU). The implication of the private sector in the economic development of the eight member countries of the community is one of the main purposes targeted by this sub-regional commercial meeting.

« The private sector, the driving force of the sub-regional economic integration« , such is the theme under which is placed the third edition of the WAEMU Regional Integration Trade Fair. 300 companies from the community space are expected in this meeting that will also be the opportunity to more involve the WAEMU economic operators in the integration process.

« It will be the opportunity for the WAEMU zone economic operators to better know each other by exchanging their products and their know-how. We moreover invited to this meeting, two countries that are not from the WAEMU sub-region, namely Gambia and Mauritania (…) In this sub-regional integration momentum, actors from public and private sectors must be informed, at the end of the fair, about the importance of the development of the intra-community business« , explained Mbaye Chimère Ndiaye, director of the Economic Observatory of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture of Dakar (CCIAD).

The WAEMU integration trade fair will also be the opportunity for participants to promote local products and evoke abnormal behavior that slows down economic activities in the region.

« We shall highlight obstacles to exchanges in our sub-region, particularly the tariff barriers. There should be fewer checkpoints on corridors, fewer bribes and an exemption from value-added tax. All this will allow to improve our trade balances that are in deficit« , explained Fancy Ndiaye that seized the opportunity to reassure the international community regarding the absence of Ebola virus in Senegal.
