UA-30-juin-2011

In spite of the crises on the African continent, there are all the same reasons for hope.

And it is pleasing to get encouragements and supports from the international community, from the UNO in particular.

In the opening on Thursday of the 23rd summit of the African Union in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, the UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, praised the development progress in Africa while reaffirming the support of the United Nations.

« In a great part of Africa, we saw stability, economic growth and ongoing progress towards the Millennium development goals », noted Mr. Ban to the heads of States and of governments and to other representatives of the AU.

The leader of the UNO declared that the AU and its regional partners regain control in order to find solutions to the crisis.

« The United Nations are proud to be a key partner », declared Mr. Ban before adding: « We make a commitment to reach your goal of integrated, prosperous and peaceful Africa, led by its own citizens and representing a dynamic force in the arena of the world ».

« While developing and setting up the planning on 2063, the United Nations will stay by your side to promote peace, human rights and sustainable development », underlined the head of the UNO.
