The Ivorian International, Yaya Touré, is the only African player in the competition for the Ballon d’or 2014. According to the list of the nominees published by Fifa, 23 players will try to succeed to Cristiano Ronaldo, holder of the title.

The former player for Barcelona is not for his first participation in the race for the Ballon d’or. In 2013, Yaya Touré was also nominated. According to Africa Top Sports, the Ivorian player has no chance against the favorites Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. « The former player for Barcelona, champion of England last season with Manchester City, should not worry the favorite logics of this distinction », indicated the Pan-African site.

While waiting for 12th January 2015, the appointment date of the prize-winner, only three candidates will be shotlisted on 1st December 2014 to continue the competition.
