WAEMU: Starting next Monday of phase 2 for business facilitation project

The encouraging results registered during the first phase of the business facilitation project within the WAEMU space brought the leaders of the West African Economic and Monetary Union member States to continue the initiative. The WAEMU commission in association with the Bizclim Facility (European Union) organizes from 20^th to 24^th April 2015, a workshop in Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso) that will open the works of the phase 2 of the project.

Since 2011, the WAEMU States have made a commitment to adopt policies that aim at facilitating the procedures of new business start-up. The adoption of the on-line information system, eRegulations, has allowed reducing up to 70 %, the administrative formalities fees for the users.

The project also helped in the considerable reduction of the business start-up time with the creation of single windows.

The workshop for business facilitation within the WAEMU space that starts on 20^th March in Ouagadougou, will allow the participants to consolidate the experiences of the phase 1 of the project and assure the sustainability of the committed actions.

The workshop will finally contribute to give a new boost to the Project of business facilitation within the WAEMU space by setting transparency and simplification community goals of the procedures for the period 2015-2018 declinable by country according to the realities and the priorities of each.

As a reminder, within the framework of the Regional program of business climate improvement (PRACA), WAEMU launched in 2011 the Project of business facilitation – WAEMU eRegulations – to facilitate the steps concerning investments and entrepreneurial activities, and identify the most relevant simplification measures.

For Guy Amédée Ajanohoun, WAEMU Commissioner in charge of the Department for the development of business, energy and tourism, « a good business environment is at the same time a favorable regulatory framework to start activities, incentive fiscal measures, stable political, legal and economic environment, modern infrastructures, solid judicial system and qualified manpower« .

Created in 1994, WAEMU counts eight member States (Benin, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Niger, Senegal and Togo)
