He promised to stop music this year. Well, he definitively stopped it. We hint at Amadou Balaké, this great man of the culture of Burkina Faso and Africa who died last Wednesday, 27th August 2014.

Disease took him aw. The musician died at the Notre-Dame de la Paix Clinic in Ouagadougou at the age of 70 years old.

The man that the world of African music and of Burkina Faso is mourning belonged to the list of the most famous musicians in Burkina Faso and outside the country having been a member of the Africando musical group together with stars as the Guinean Sékouba Bambino. He was said to have been an outstanding artist.

The professional musician adventure of Amadou Balaké started in 1962 in Mali. He joined the Grand Hôtel band that makes show every evening at the Moulin Rouge, a nightclub of Bamako.

In 1963, he left the Malian capital town and landed in Abidjan where with Italians, he played at Tropicana in hôtel Ivoire before leaving for Guinea where he was appointed as conductor of Horoya Band of Kankan.

Back to Burkina Faso a few years later, Amadou Balaké, joined the Harmonie voltaïque where he played before emigrating. The song he makes composed, « Balaké » (porcupine Mandingue language), was a musical, media and commercial success in several countries of Africa and was worth to him this Balaké nickname

Authors of five successful albums and prize-winner of the golden disk of the Radio Television of Ivory Coast in 1982, Amadou Balaké joined in 2001 this mythical African salsa group created in 1993.
