As reported by Africa Top Success, the spreading of Ebola virus disease in West African countries is worrying many people. Several international meetings planned in this part of Africa were postponed, relocated or simply cancelled. Burkina Faso is not affected by the disease but is taking precaution measures.

The country has just announced the cancellation of the edition 2014 of the Faso Cycle Race. This decision from the State brings the cinema enthusiasts of the continent to wonder about effective holding of the Pan-African Festival of Cinema and Television of Ouagadougou (FESPACO) planned from 28th February to 3rd March 2015.

« It is for safety precaution. We have a surveillance system that works well but with the case arisen in the United States of America, our system risks to become weak if ever there is the slightest case of Ebola in Burkina Faso. This is why the Burkinabe government avoids the organization of all events that can gather thousands of people« , Alain Edouard Traoré, Burkinabe Minister of Communication and Government Spokesman declared to RFI.

Fespaco is the biggest international meeting of African cinema. It gathers thousands of participants coming from all over the world. The edition 2015 of the event looks nevertheless promising. The global financial allocation for the trophies will double in 2015, moving from 10 to 20 million. The competition is also opened to African film-makers from the Diaspora.
