The Liberian government intends to boost agriculture in order to make more of it, a sector provider of employment, mainly in favor of the young holders of the high school diploma.

For that purpose, the Ministry of Education has just launched a National Diploma in Agriculture (NDA). The project is supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

The project is thus intended for the graduates of the grammar school. The latter, after two year innovative training, should directly launch themselves into agriculture through an employment in the formal sector or in the agro-entrepreneurship.

The training that will be done in the Agriculture Center of Excellence, an institute having the support of the USAID Food and Enterprise Development Program (FED), will have a practical phase that will take place in the companies.

It will allow getting skills capable of offering them numerous options regarding employment in the respect of the growing needs for the farming and agro industrial sector.

The NDA is the first technical diploma of the country which is harmonized in the standards of the Economic Community of the West African States (ECOWAS) regarding agricultural program.

The Liberian authorities expressed their conviction that it would constitute a major tool in the reconstruction of the national farming sector which is at present in progress.
