West African States are multiplying their actions in favor of the so desired sub-regional integration. Up from 1st January 2015, the 15 member States of the ECOWAS (Economic Community Of West African States) will use the Harmonized System (HS) of commodity description and coding.

The HS objective is to reach the Common External Tariff (CET), the important element of the sub-regional integration. In Togo, arrangements are made for the implementation of the new provisions.

« We shall henceforth speak the same language at the border of the 15 States. Goods coming for example from China will be taxed in the same way in Togo, in Burkina or in Ghana« , indicated on Monday Kodjo Adedzé, the customs general commissioner during a meeting of information including civil servants from the Togolese Office of Receipts (OTR), agents approved in customs and representatives of the private sector.

For reminder, the ECOWAS member States are also working for the use of a single currency within the zone in 2015. The question was tackled on 14th July during the last meeting of the technical steering committee.
