FIDO 2015: 20 compagnies expected in Ouagadougou

For its third edition, the International Dance Festival (FIDO) gathered about twenty dance companies come from Africa and Europe. The activities of the festival last Saturday, 17th January in the French cultural center. Three dance companies opened the event without forgetting the participation of the traditional dance.

The festival aims at being a space of meeting, creation, transmission, sharing and cultures interbreeding. This year, honor is given to dancers choreographers from North Africa.

For that purpose, the public discovered with the Moroccan national ballet, the traditional Moroccan heritage through music as well as dance by « Bou’jelaba« , a dance that is characterized by very subtle movements of fingers.

« Les Anges » duo of the Ballet Preljocal from Aix-en-Provence in France and « Man Rec » by the Senegalese, Amala Dianor, got the merit to draw all the attention of the public by the body movements and graceful gestures.

Choreographies, certainly unknown for the lay person, but whatever the artist wanted to say, « the important thing is not to understand but just to enjoy once evening, a show time, to forget once everyday life« .

For the organizer, what is interesting « is the collaboration of the various influences of the urban dance and the African contemporary dance« .

As major innovation in this edition, the introduction for 10 minute traditional dance from the Burkinabe land in order to promote them; and it is the « Binon » from the Gourounsi ethnic group in the province of Sanguié in the West of the country that was honored in the evening.

As a reminder, the FIDO is held from 17th to 24th January in the French Cultural Center and the Burkinabe Theatre Workshop (ATB).
