Future of African young people: about 90 % show their optimism

Are there any reasons to believe in a winning Africa, in a brilliant future for African youth, in a brighter future for the coming generations? Yes!

According to an opinion survey carried out in 42 countries of African continent, it is revealed that about 90 % of young Africans are optimists for their future.

Answering the questionnaire, 89 % of young people « think that their standard of living will be better than the one of their parents », according to the results published.

The investigation was revealed during the opening last Thursday in Libreville of the 3rd edition of New York Forum Africa (NYFA 2014). A meeting organized by the Gabonese president, Ali Bongo Ondimba, gathering several hundred personalities coming from economic, university and artistic environments on the theme of the future of the African continent.

The French Minister of Foreign Affairs Laurent Fabius, the Rwandan president, Paul Kagame and the Central African Republic president, Catherine Samba-Panza, were present at the opening ceremony of the Forum.

This study moreover showed that entrepreneurship attracts 3/4 of the questioned young people, who said « to be willing to set up their own business« .

But 56 % of entrepreneurs having participated in the investigation evoked difficulties to have access to the financings when they will be launched. Most even asserted having called on informal circuits: family, friends and personal savings to constitute a start-up capital.
