ICTS: Burkina Faso innovating with «G-Cloud»

The government of Burkina Faso made is committed to considerably reduce the digital divide. After the announcement of the construction of a Backbone for more than 5 thousand km assigned to the Chinese company, Huawei Technologies (for 120 billion), the country is getting ready for the construction of « G-Cloud », a platform that will facilitate the access to various IT services.

With the installation of « G-Cloud » platform, Burkina can join « e-education, e-government, telemedicine, e-commerce, e-services for the benefit of the rural populations », indicated Afred Sawadogo, managing director of the national Agency for the promotion of ICTS in Burkina Faso (ANPTIC).

The project estimated at 47 billion FCFA, will be carried out by the telecom equipment manufacturer, Alcatel-Lucent. It got partial financing from Nordea-Bank Danida Business Finance.

« G-Cloud is a model that will offer, through internet, access to request, for a set of shared and configurable computing resources and that can be quickly put at the disposal of the customer (administrative department, company, citizen) without direct interaction with the service provider« , explained Afred Sawadogo. According to the Jeune Afrique Magazine, the starting of « G-Cloud » building work is planned for the beginning of 2015.
