Michel Kafando: leader of the transition in Burkina Faso

Lieutenant Colonel Zida in command of Burkina Faso since the fall of the former president, Blaise Campore, has just put handed the power over to a civilian as Burkinabe people and the international community have wished it. Michel Kafando, the new strong man of Burkina Faso, is unanimously appointed by the political parties, the army and the civil society. He will have for mission, the organization of democratic elections in April 2015.

Michel Kafando (75 years old) is not new in the management of public affairs. Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Burkina Faso from 1982 to 1983, the diplomat was also an ambassador of his country with the UNO.

According to the article 4 of the transition charter, the new president will not participate in the elections that he will be organized in November 2015. « The President of the transition is not eligible in the presidential and general elections that will be organized at the end the transition. The present requirement may not be of any revision », specifies the article.

« The uprising made people of Burkina Faso found back their dignity. There will henceforth be in our dear country, before and after 31st October 2014« , declared Lieutenant colonel Zida, having signed the transition charter.
