Farmers’ National Day 2014: Burkina Faso honors its producers.

The 17th farmers’ national day is luxuriously getting ready by public authorities of Burkina Faso. This event planned from 10th to 12th April 2014 coincides with the year of agriculture decreed by the African Union. For this year, the meeting is placed under the theme: « Win food-processing challenge in order to increase competitiveness of national farm products on markets: roles of government and private sector ».

The burkinabe Ministers of the agriculture, animal and halieutic Resources and water held on Friday at Fada N’Gourma a press conference in prelude to the 17th farmers’ national day. For this edition, government wants to establish a frank and direct dialogue with producers around their major concerns. The preservation and selling of farm products are among problems to which Burkinabe farmers are confronted. Government is committed to find sustainable and effective solutions to aforesaid difficulties.

According to Minister Mahama Zoungrana, the 17th farmers’ national day will be the opportunity of paying in a deserved tribute to brave producers. Burkina Faso is a big exporter of vegetables in West Africa. The country produces 42 258 tons of onions or 32, 4 percent of total market garden production and approximately 3 % of total production.

The agenda of the event is composed of sustainable development actors’ forum, sectorial workshops and a discussion with the Head of State.
