750 new national volunteers took oath last Thursday, 3rd April  in Lomé within the context of the program of National Voluntary service Promotion in Togo (PROVONAT). These graduate jobless young belonging to the 7th group of the project, are going to acquire their first work experience. Launched two years ago, PROVONAT has already offered employment to 4230 young people.

The selected young people are going to work within associations, administrations and companies on the basis of one year contract renewable five times.

The project, carried out by Togolese ministry of Basic Development, Craft industry, Youth and Employment of the Youth, is supported by the UNDP, France Volontaires, GIZ (German cooperation) and Peace Corps of the United States.

PROVONAT arouses admiration from international community. Present at the taking of the oath ceremony, Khardiata LO N’DIAYE, the Resident Representative of the UNDP in Togo, did not hide her enjoyment to see perpetuating the project. « Today, I am delighted to notice that besides the more and more increasing number of volunteers, PROVONAT has henceforth come within the scope of sustainability and capitalization of its experiences », she indicated.

For Richard Dictus, the main responsible for the United Nations Program of Voluntary service, who ended on Friday a 3-day-visit of 3 in Togo, PROVONAT is an innovation in Africa. « PROVONAT is very important and doubtless one of the best ever realized in Africa. It is an example for the sub-region, it is an example for Africa and we are trying to build a new international partnership to support this Togolese project, but also other projects in the region », he explained.
